JOLE TURBOR

Jole Turbor (9/11/1801 - 11/1/1874) was a conservative politician who served as Prime Minister for 134 days in 1870. Born in Gilbey Town he worked as a land surveyor, newspaper publisher and school teacher. He was a prominent member of the local Christian Democratic Party and an MP since 1846. He was a minister of Education in Shenet Terfel's cabinet. After National Party's defeat in the 1862 election he emerged as the party president. When Louis Degeer failed to maintain a stable government after the retirement of Emer Thallus, Queen Victoria gave Turbor the mandate, but he was only able to stay as Prime Minister for only 134 days. He died 4 years later as he contracted yellow fever from a trip to Turkey.
