Marc Cassidor (25/9/1694 – 8/11/1755) was a Pharonian statesman who served as Premier of The Dominion of Pharos from 1748 until his death in 1755. Born in Eptapolis he was a younger son of Theo Cassidor, Duke of Eptapolis. He was educated in Satemberg and in England at the famous King's College of Cambridge. Through strong family influence (his older brother Henrik was an MP and minister), and the recommendation of Ider Moroz, he was chosen in 1721 as Lord of the Treasury. With Yol Vanderlan, he served as a founding governor of the popular charity the Foundling Hospital when it opened its doors in 1739. When Vanderlan died suddenly in August 1748, Cassidor was appointed Premier by the King, who preferred him than his hard-tempered brother, who died a few months after, probably from his sorrow and anger over the King's choice. Marc Cassidor served for 7 years, his premiership being relatively uneventful in terms of domestic affairs. His financial policy was a major success once peace had been signed in 1748 to end the War of the Austrian Succession. He refinanced the national debt, he reduced the land tax to 10% and reduced government spending. In 5 November 1755 Cassidor suffered a severe stroke, just 4 days after the enormous tsunami from the Great Lisbon Earthquake devasted the south areas of the island, killing thousands. He passed away a few days later.
