YOL CHIFTELOV

YOL CHIFTELOV

Yol Chiftelov (1/2/1627 - 4/4/1694) was a Pharonian landowner, mathematician, astronomer as well as an ASO Ers Orator. He was born in Satemberg, the elder son of Kon Chiftelov and Lady Anna Napier. He was privately tutored at home and went to France and England to attend various Universities. He returned to Pharos in 1655. He was a member of the ASO, as his father initiated him and became Ers Orator in 1681 after Ton Spyr's death. In 1688 William of Orange was crowned King and passed the command of the Parliamentarian forces in Pharos to Chiftelov, not knowing his secret involvement. The "klin-X", a cleansing of the island from any Jacobites, was ordered by Chiftelov as to avoid further intervention of the British in the island, with only minor persecutions. In 1689, after Chiftelov's lobbying, the Bill of Rights was passed. which further strengthened the position of the Pharonian Parliament as de facto ruler of the island. In 1692 Chiftelov wrote a secret paper "necessary operations and acts for defense of this island", which for many years was the Holy Bible to the ASO members. He died from gout in 1694.
